Mix 2 cups water with one box drywall mud. Apply with a wadded up plastic bag. After 5 or 10 minutes, knock it down with a trowel. Don't let the edge of your trowel make lines. You can also use this texture on a ceiling without knocking it down. Try it in a closet to practice. Make an application tool with cardboard and an old shopping bag. I glued the bag to the cardboard with contact cement. This type of finish is easy to apply. Easy to patch. And it has a nice hand-worked texture. You can't get this finish with a machine. You will need 1 or 2 boxes to do a bedroom. I knocked this down when it was juicy wet. It's more forgiving if it sets up a little. It took me about 6 hours to do the ceiling and 6 hours to do the walls in my bedroom. It didn't make a big mess.
